Doha set to host 2026 World University Weightlifting Championships with 116 athletes

The Organizing Committee of the 2026 World University Weightlifting Championships – Doha has announced the completion of preparations for the 10th edition of the tournament.

The championship will take place in Doha from 8 to 12 September 2026, bringing together around 116 athletes from 21 countries.

Organizers Announce Readiness at Press Conference

The announcement was made during a press conference held at Multaqa (Education City Student Center).

The event was attended by officials from the Organizing Committee and the International University Sports Federation (FISU), along with sponsors, partners and media representatives.

Qatar Highlights Commitment to University Sport

H.E. Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, President of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF) and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said that hosting the championship reflects Qatar’s commitment to supporting university sport.

He also highlighted the importance of strengthening Qatar’s presence on the international university sports stage.

Doha Fully Prepared to Welcome Athletes

Mr. Rashid Saeed Adiba, QCSF Secretary-General and Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee, confirmed that Doha is fully prepared to host the championship.

He said the event will be delivered through an integrated organizational framework designed to meet the highest international standards.

Competition to Take Place at Education City

The weightlifting competitions will be held at Multaqa (Education City Student Center), providing the venue for athletes competing across the five-day championship.

The event will bring university weightlifters from across the world to Doha for one of the key international university sporting competitions of 2026.

Championship Returns After Eight-Year Hiatus

The 2026 edition marks the return of the World University Weightlifting Championships to the international calendar after a hiatus since 2018.

It will also be the second world championship organized by Qatar’s university sports federation since its official establishment in 2023.

Doha Strengthens Position as an International Sports Destination

Hosting the championship further reinforces Doha’s growing role as a destination for major international sporting events.
